What are lens coatings and tints?

We offer a wide range of tints and coatings:

Tints:  We can tint your lenses in a wide range of colours.  They can be as light or dark as you wish.  Sunglass tints are usually made to --% tint.  Please advise us what intensity of tint you would like.  If you are not sure please specify light, medium or dark.  Remember if you are not satisfied you have the option of exchange or full refund.

React to light/ Transitions: These lenses will develop a variable tint depending on atmospheric UV light.  We do not have any control as to how dark they will turn.  The chemical reaction within the lens deteriorates over time causing a slow down in the reaction time and leaving a residual tint.  We therefore recommend that you replace these lenses approximately every two years.

UV 400:  This tint cuts out harmful UV rays transmission through the lens.

Polarised lenses:  Cuts down on reflections for example on road and water surfaces providing clearer and more comfortable vision.  Great with sunglasses.

Anti Reflection Coating:  Most lenses will reflect a certain amount of light like a mirror.  This coating reduces the reflections ensuring clearer comfortable vision.  This coating also offers a superior cosmetic appearance.

Scratch resistant coating:  A clear coating on the lens that makes them more resistant to scratching.  Will not make the lens scratch proof but certainly more resistant.
